Sóller Tunnel

After the toll is paid, the barrier lifts,
And you drive into the orifice in the hill.
Cool darkness hardens on the road.
For three kilometres a cavernous
Passageway, the walls like brain matter
Converging ahead on an unblinking eye

That widens like a slowly emerging thought
And you go through into radiance,
Into vistas of jubilant pine trees and peaks,
A sun-flooded valley with the Puig Mayor,
Not like a ? Not a ! not a . not a ,
But a proud affirmation in its unbowed head.

Puig Mayor Sóller

The Sóller valley with the Puig Mayor at the head of the valley. The Puig has and altitude of 1,445 metres and is the highest mountain in Mallorca, Spain.
